N.p. Red Lion, 1968. Presentation script for the 1969 film, copy belonging to producer Harry Mandell.
An early, grim New Hollywood entry, directed by Val Lewton veteran Mark Robson, and one of the first screenwriting efforts by Larry Cohen. Cathy Palmer (Carol White) has an abortion and breaks off the engagement with her fiancé, Kenneth Daly (Scott Hylands), after he shows the violent and deranged side of himself. Later she marries Jack Byrnes (Paul Burke), an aspiring politician, and together they have a child. Cathy's new relationship enrages Kenneth, who stalks her and her family with the notion that her new child must die as atonement for the one who was aborted.
Shot on location in San Francisco.
