Inspired by George Gerswin's jazz-influenced orchestral work "An American in Paris," Minnelli's "An American in Paris" stars Kelly as American ex G.I. Jerry Mulligan, a struggling painter living in Paris. He's discovered by Milo Roberts (Nina Foch,) a wealthy American heiress, who has her eyes on more than just his paintings. Jerry is falling for the beautiful French girl Lise Bouvier (Leslie Caron) whose dating the entertainer Henri Baurel (Georges Guetary,) an associate of Jerry's friend and neighbor, struggling pianist Adam Cook (Oscar Levant.) Song, dance and romantic complications abound.

Winner of 6 Academy Awards, nominated for 2 others. Nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1952.
