Jose Esquerda (Quinn), a Mexican bandit in Brownsville, Texas conducts raids against new settlers in the region, threatening to kill them and burn down their homes, which includes the ranch house King Cameron (Howard Keel) built for his wife (Ava Gardner). Esquerda's stepbrother Rio (Robert Taylor) at first joins him in the chaos, but soon forms a partnership with Cameron and the two stepbrothers end up in a showdown gunfight for control.

Set in Texas, shot on location in Utah, USA.
