Based on Joseph Conrad's 1911 novel "Under Western Eyes," which was considered by some to be Conrad's response to "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky, whom Conrad purportedly despised. The narrative generally depicts the life of an oft-downtrodden revolutionary, told through the story of a language teacher living in Geneva.

Set in St. Petersburg, Russia and Geneva, Switzerland.
