Roland began as a vaudeville actress as a child, and was hired by director Sidney Olcott for her first credited film appearance with Kalem Studios in 1911. She went on to work under contract with Balboa Films, where she became known for acting in adventure film serials, most notably "The Red Circle" (1915). She appeared in over 200 films between 1908 and 1930, until her onscreen career was cut short by the advent of sound film.
