When Pinky Johnson (Jeanne Crain) returns home to the South to visit her grandmother, she confesses that she's been passing for a white woman while up North studying to be a nurse. She also confesses she is in love with Dr. Thomas Adams (William Lundigan), a white man unaware she is black.
Nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Actress and two Best Supporting Actress nominations.
