Eddy was an American singer and actor who appeared in 19 musical films during the 1930s and 1940s, as well as in opera, the concert stage, radio, television, and nightclubs. Perhaps best known for the eight films in which he co-starred with Jeanette MacDonald (with whom he had a clandestine affair from 1936 onward), most notably W. S. Van Dyke's 1936 "Rose Marie," and Robert Z. Leonard's 1937 "Maytime."
Eddy also had made more than 290 musical recordings between 1935 and 1964 ranging from his popular songs from films, to opera, folk songs, Gilbert and Sullivan, arias, and popular songs, drawing rave reviews during the 1930s and 1940s.
