Annotation on leaf preceding title page lists all pages with dialogue or action of Brader character in manuscript ink and Helm's name and character's name in manuscript pencil. Copy number "26" in manuscript ink on top right of front wrapper.

Fort Laramie, an undermanned garrison, is trying to keep peace with the Sioux when the Civil War breaks out, dividing loyalties down the middle. Chief Red Cloud, head of the Sioux Nation sees an opportunity to split and wipe out the garrison.

Harry Dean Stanton's film debut.

Set in Wyoming, shot on location in Utah.
