Based on the 1948 novel by Ellery Queen (Frederic Dannay and Manfred Lee). The young sculptor Charles Van Horn (Anthony Perkins) wakes up in a strange bed, covered in blood, with no memory of the previous night's events. He calls his old professor, Paul Regis (Michel Piccoli), to accompany him to his adoptive father's (Orson Welles) strange, insular, Gatsby-like estate and tries to unravel the mystery.
Shot on location in Haut-Rhin and Paris.
