"Films and Filming" was a highly regarded film magazine that frequently eschewed the usual box office fodder in favor cult and arthouse films, and in particular films with LGBTQ interest. First published in 1951 by Philip Dosse as a stablemate to his other magazines on the arts, Peter Brinson was brought on as the first editor, successfully editing the magazine to appeal to the gay market at a time when homosexuality was still a criminal offense in Britain. It was the magazine's second editor, Peter Baker, that helped make the magazine a must-read for the serious cinephile.

Films, essays, and photospreads in this issue include "The Graduate," The Sexy Flying Machine that Burst from a Cloud by actor Michael J. Pollard, USA Confidential (new independent American cinema), "Wild in the Streets," "Killers Three," "Three in the Attic," Luchino Visconti's "The Stranger," Colours and Contrast by Raymond Durgnat, Sci-fi or Sci-fact? by Curt Siodmak, and an on location article on "The Secret of Santa Vittoria."
