Anne Gauthier (Anouk Aimee) and Jean-Louis Duroc (Trintignant) meet as they drop their children off at boarding school and quickly become friends. As romance develops, they each reveal that they have lost a spouse and are still grieving, complicating the blossoming relationship. Winner of two Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film and Best Screenplay, nominated for Best Director and Best Actress. Winner of the Palm d'Or.

Lelouch would make a sequel "A Man and a Woman: 20 Years Later," in 1986, as well as another follow up film "The Best Years of a Life," in 2019, both still starring Aimee and Trintignant.

Shot on location in Paris, Deauville, and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, France.
