Liza Minnelli, Mikhail Baryshnikov (subjects)

New York: United Press International, 1976. Vintage oversize black and white photograph of Liza Minnelli and Mikhail Baryshnikov dancing at an afterparty at the Iranian embassy after a gala benefit for the American Ballet Theatre at the Kennedy Center, in Washington DC, 1976. With a newspaper clipping affixed to the verso dated APR 9 1976, along with the stamp of United Press International.

Under the control of flamboyant ambassador Ardeshir Zahedi, the Iranian embassy proved to be one of the more popular and extravagant nightlife locations throughout the 1970s, a place where DC's political elite mingled with celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor and Barbra Streisand. However, the Iranian Revolution of 1979 led to the rise of anti-Iran sentiment in the US, and by 1980 the Iranian embassy had been shut down for good.

14 x 9.5 inches. Very Good, slightly wavy, with cropping annotations in pencil on the recto.
