Original photograph of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini in Rome, 1957

Ingrid Bergman, Roberto Rossellini (subjects)

N.p. N.p., 1957. Vintage oversize black and white photograph of director Roberto Rossellini and actress Ingrid Bergman arriving in Rome in 1957. With a newspaper clipping affixed to the verso with a stamp noting the date NOV 3 1957.

Bergman relocated to Europe for several years following the public exposure of her extramarital affair with Rossellini in 1950. The couple's first son, Renato, was born out of wedlock, causing a media frenzy in the US and resulting in an acrimonious divorce and custody battle between Bergman and her first husband Petter Lindstrom. During her years on the continent, Bergman most notably appeared in Rossellini's 1954 film "Journey to Italy," but made a triumphant return to Hollywood two years later to appear in "Anastasia," for which she won her second Academy Award.

14 x 11 inches. Very Good, lightly toned overall, with cropping annotations in manuscript pencil to the recto.
