Original photograph of Roberto Rossellini, 1950

Roberto Rossellini (subject)

N.p. N.p., 1950. Vintage oversize borderless black and white photograph of director Roberto Rossellini in an altercation with several reporters outside the clinic where his wife Ingrid Bergman had just given birth to their first child together. With a newspaper clipping on the verso, along with a date stamp reading FEB 5 1950.

Bergman relocated to Europe for several years following the public exposure of her extramarital affair with Rossellini in 1950. Their first son, Renato, was born out of wedlock, causing a media frenzy in the US and resulting in an acrimonious divorce and custody battle between Bergman and her first husband Petter Lindstrom. Bergman and Rossellini would wed in May of 1950, three months after the birth of Renato, and would remain married until 1957.

11 x 13.5 inches. Very Good, moderately creased and edgeworn, with a small chip to the bottom edge, and cropping annotations on the recto.
