Based on the 1948 novel by Niven Busch. A tense, vengeful western which owes as much to archetypes of Greek tragedy and Shakespearean drama as it does to the conventions of the genre, following a rancher's strong-willed daughter who seeks revenge on her father for the wrongful hanging of her best friend. One of the few films in the noir canon that is also a Western.
Set in New Mexico, shot on location in Arizona.
