Medea
N.p. N.p., Circa 1969. Two vintage borderless photographs from the 1969 Italian film, one showing actress Maria Callas sporting a cape and headdress in costume the titular character, the other showing Callas and her poodle with young actor Luigi Masironi between takes on the set of the film. With the stamp of photographer Mario Tursi on the verso.
Based on Euripides' tragedy, first performed in 431 BC, which was in turn based on the Greek myth of Medea, who famously killed her sons as revenge against her unfaithful husband. The sole feature film appearance of noted opera legend Maria Callas, one in which she curiously does not sing.
Set in Greece, shot on location in Goreme, Turkey.
