Based on Warwick Deeping's 1927 novel. Believing his beloved will accept his marriage proposal, a lonely farmer cuts down and sells wood from a beloved stand of trees to update the farm for her. After considering the hardships of farm life, however, the woman chooses to marry a wealthy banker instead, a decision she later comes to regret.

Set in Sussex.
