Loosely based on the 1943 musical, an all-Black stage adaptation of Bizet's 1875 opera "Carmen," which was in turn based on Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halevy's 1845 novella. A parachute factory worker (Dorothy Dandridge) has a reputation for promiscuous behavior, but finds herself obsessed with the one man she cannot have: Joe, an engaged army officer.

Set in North Carolina.
