Desperate for cash after blowing his inheritance, a playboy marries an introverted and nerdy but very wealthy woman, hoping to murder her and use the insurance payout to settle his debts. Elaine May's directorial debut, a critical success which was largely ignored at the box office, but which is rightfully today considered a cult classic.

Shot on location in New York and Maine.

Green Paramount wrappers, with logo stamped in gilt at the bottom right and a die-cut title window. Title page present, dated April 28, 1969, stamped FILE COPY, with credits for screenwriter Elaine May. 133 leaves, with last page of text numbered 131. Early xerographic duplication, rectos only, with white revision pages throughout, dated variously between 5/22/69 and 6/4/69. Pages Very Good plus, wrapper Near Fine, bound internally with three gold brads.
