New York: Grosset and Dunlap, Circa 1941. Hardcover. Later printing. SIGNED on the front endpaper by actors Tyrone Power and Joan Fontaine, who starred in Anatole Litvak's 1942 film adaptation, with a third inscription by radio personality Tom Breneman on the front pastedown. A contemporary owner annotation in holograph pencil on the front endpaper notes the book as a "'Gift from Sardis - June 5, 1942.'"
Breneman hosted a popular morning radio show from 1941-1948, broadcast from Sardi's Restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard. The show underwent many name changes, but was best known as "Breakfast in Hollywood," and featured unscripted interviews with contemporary stars, including Jimmy Durante, Andy Devine, and Orson Welles.
Very Good plus in a Very Good dust jacket. Board edges lightly frayed, with a small bump to the top fore-edge of the front board and a few tiny splashes to the top page edges. Jacket front flap is separated from the rear panel, with a light dampstain to the rear flap fold, and chips to the crown and top edge of the rear panel.
