Based on the 1964 Broadway play, which was in turn based on the 1938 play "The Merchant of Yonkers," later revised and retitled "The Matchmaker." The comedy follows New York arrival of Dolly Levi, a strong-willed matchmaker who intends to marry off Horace Vandergelder, a wealthy, unmarried older man.

Nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning three.

Set in Yonkers, shot on location in Garrison and West Point, New York.
