The tenth installment in the "Friday the 13th" franchise, preceded by "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday" (1993), directed by Adam Marcus and starring John D. LeMay and Kari Keegan, and followed by the crossover film with the "Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise, "Freddy vs. Jason" (2003), directed by Ronny Yu and starring Monica Keena and Kelly Rowland.
Jason Voorhees, captured by the US government and held at the Crystal Lake Research facility, is frozen in a cryogenic pod after an escape attempt. Centuries later, during an expedition on the uninhabitable Earth, the frozen body is discovered and brought back to the spaceship to be thawed and upgraded. Heavily influenced by Ridley Scott's "Alien" (1979), laden with self-aware humor, and featuring a memorable cameo from director David Cronenburg.
