Painted Shores

Paris: Editions Narcisse, 1927. Limited Edition, one of 244 hand numbered copies (this being No. 169). Illustrated with three color plates by Francois Quelvee, with tissue guards intact.

Noted arts patron and bohemian Caresse Crosby's third collection of poetry, and the first book published by her press Editions Narcisse, founded by Crosby alongside her second husband Harry (and named after their black whippet, Narcisse Noir). The name of the press was changed to the Black Sun Press the following year, and would go on to publish many now-renowned avant-garde authors before the writers were well-known, including Ernest Hemingway, Anais Nin and Henry Miller, Charles Bukowski, and Hart Crane.

Very Good plus in wrappers, with light toning to the edges, and moderate chipping and wear to the spine.
