The seminal punk/rock band Hüsker Dü formed in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1979, with members Bob Mould, Greg Norton, and Grant Hart defining the hardcore scene in the early 1980s with constant touring, breakneck sets, and critical acclaim, quickly garnering a nationwide audience.

Like many more ambitious punk banks, Hüsker Dü quickly expanded their sound and in 1985 released the groundbreaking "Zen Arcade," a landmark record that incorporated elements of folk, psychedelia, and rock and roll, proving to be a lasting influence to the alternative music scene for decades to come. Husker Du officially disbanded in 1988, and Mould and Hart continued on to prolific solo careers, as well as forming the bands Sugar and Nova Mob, respectively.
