The Red Scarf

New York: Mystery House, 1958. First Edition. INSCRIBED by the author on a laid-in typescript slip: "For Harry and Kathryn: / Harry, if you don't sit yourself down and write the honest to God book of your guts very soon, I'm sure as hell going to bash you over the head with a sledge hammer. / I mean it. / Gil."

Noted pulp fiction author Gil Brewer was one of the major writers in the Gold Medal line of paperback originals. This is one of two books written by Brewer to be published in hardcover, considered by some to be the apex of his published work.

Very Good plus in a Very Good plus dust jacket. Light black staining on the bottom edges of the endpapers from an old Brodart cover, and a small glue stain and pinhole on the front endpaper, presumably the remnants of an old bookplate. Jacket lightly worn, but with no loss, with spine title faded from red to white (against a black background).
