Based on the 1982 novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King. An exploration of two decades of friendship between two convicts, Andy Dufresne, wrongly convicted of murdering his wife and her lover, and Red, a contraband smuggler, contending with the brutal hardships of prison life. One of the most beloved films of the 1990s, featuring outstanding performances from Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Actor for Freeman.

Set in the fictional Shawshank State Prison in Maine and Zihuatanejo, Mexico, shot on location in Mansfield, Ohio and St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
