The Fox Studio, known historically as Movietone City, was the first complete facility created specifically for the production of motion pictures. First opened in October 1928, the studio was built in just under four months on the former William Selig/Polyscope studio lot, located at Western Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, and was named after Fox's newly acquired Movietone sound system.
