The Crucible

New York: Martin Beck Theatre, 1953. Vintage playbill for the 1953 Broadway production.

The play ran for 197 performances at the Martin Beck Theatre, from January 22, 1953 to July 11, 1953. Although the premiere staging won the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play, Miller and many contemporary critics considered the production too cold and stylized. A 1954 revival, under new direction and at the Belasco Theatre, would go on to become a success and secure the play's status as a classic of modern American theatre.

6.5 x 9 inches, side stapled. Very Good plus, with light wear and soil on the wrappers.
