Jerome Liebling worked as a photographer and documentary filmmaker for over six decades. Liebling began his career after World War II, joining New York's Photo League in 1947 alongside Sol Libsohn, Sid Grossman, Morris Engel, Arthur Leipzig, Ruth Orkin, Walter Rosenblum, and other photograph and film luminaries of the period. He would go on to found photography and film programs at the University of Minnesota and Hampshire College, and was a recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships and a National Endowment for the Arts Photographic Survey Grant before his death in 2011.
