San Jose: The Mercury News, 1987. Vintage photograph of the 1951 Frank Lloyd Wright house, the Clinton Della Walker house, also known as Cabin on the Rocks, on Carmel Point in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, taken by photographer John R. Fulton Jr. for the Bay Area newspaper, The Mercury News, 1987. Mercury News mimeo snipe on the verso.

An example of Wright's organic architecture, the Clinton Della Walker house is Wright's only house that overlooks the ocean, here viewed from the structure's east side, overlooking Carmel Bay. Designed by Wright in 1948 for Mrs. Clinton Della Walker, who said she wanted a house "as durable as the rocks and as transparent as the waves," it was built by Miles Bain and completed in 1951. When approached from the west, the house has the appearance of the prow of a ship jutting out from Carmel Point's rocky shoreline. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The home was featured as the beach house in the 1959 film "A Summer Place," directed and written by Delmer Daves, and starring Richard Egan and Dorothy McGuire.
