Best known for her performance as Brigid O'Shaughnessy in the 1941 film noir "The Maltese Falcon," directed by John Huston and co-starring Humphrey Bogart, Astor's career spanned five decades and starred in more than 100 movies. In 1941 she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of concert pianist Sandra Kovak in the 1941 film "The Great Lie," directed by Edmund Goulding, and starring Bette Davis and George Brent.
