Collection of eleven original photographs relating to television actor Sid Caesar, circa 1950-1967

Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner (subjects)

N.p. N.p., Circa 1950-1967. Collection of eleven vintage photographs relating to television actor, writer, and comedian Sid Caesar, variously dating between 1950 and 1967. Caesar appears in nine of the photographs, and Caesar's longtime costar, Imogene Coca, appears in two. Notably, one photograph shows Carl Reiner, then a writer and occasional cast member on Caesar's landmark television series "Your Show of Shows." Four photographs with printed mimeo snipes affixed to the versos, and one mounted on stiff cardboard.

Included in the collection are four photographs from "Your Show of Shows" (1950-1954), one photograph from "Variety: World of Show Biz" (1960), and two photographs from "The Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner, Howard Morris Special" (1967).

Caesar was best known for pioneering the live television shows "Your Show of Shows" and "Caesar's Hour." Considered an outlier in the 1950s for his sketch comedy style—a stark contrast to the slapstick humor which was popular on television at the time—Caesar also employed a number of writers who would go on to become famous in their own right, including Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Mel Tonkin, Carl Reiner, Lucille Kallen, and Woody Allen. He was nominated for eleven Emmy Awards over the course of his career, which spanned six decades.

Generally 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine to Very Good plus.
