Based on Billy Bob Thornton's 1996 short film "Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade," about an intellectually disabled man who helps a young boy escape his mother's abusive boyfriend. Nominated for two Academy Awards, winning one for Best Screenplay.

Set and shot on location in Haskell and Benton, Arkansas.
