Based on the acclaimed, enigmatic 1984 novel by Joan Didion, and adapted by Academy Award nominated screenwriter Alice Arlen. Didion's examination of democracy, and its absence, through an American family of businessmen and politicians, the Victors. Inez Christian Victor, wife of US Senator Harry Victor, leaves her husband and son after the death of her sister, to search for her daughter, Jessie, and is reunited with an old flame, CIA agent and war profiteer, Jack Lovett.

Set in mid-1970s Hawaii and Southeast Asia.
