Original photograph of Lou Reed performing at the Crystal Palace Garden Party, London, 1973, by photographer Chris Walter
London: London Features International, 1973. Vintage photograph of Lou Reed performing at the Crystal Palace Garden Party, London, on September 15, 1973, by photographer Chris Walter. Annotations in holograph ink and marker on the left margin of the recto, and a Walter, London Features International photographer stamp and a label with the artist, month, year, and location on the verso.
Chris Walter was a photographer of classic rock and pop musicians for The London Photo Agency, London Features, and Photofeatures International during the 1960s and 1970s.
In late 1973, Reed was touring in support of his classic 1973 album "Berlin." The tour, which largely eschewed material from "Berlin" in favor of older Velvet Underground material, resulted in two live albums from the December 21, 1973 concert at Howard Stein's Academy of Music in New York, "Rock 'n' Roll Animal" and "Lou Reed Live," released in 1974 and 1975 respectively.
The Crystal Palace Garden Party concert on Saturday 15, 1973 was a day long series of performances featuring Reed, James Taylor, Beck, Bogart, and Appice, and Golden Earring, among others. Reed, in his black leather and heavy face paint, was not in top form (noted on guitarist Steve Hunter's website as "Short set as Lou is unfit"), and performed only four songs in just over 20 minutes.
8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus, with light creasing in the margins, and a tiny closed tear to the bottom left margin.
