A New Hollywood neo-noir, based on Simon's 1973 novel. Moses Wine (Dreyfuss) is a 1960s radical-turned-private eye who is hired by Lila (Anspach) to investigate a smear campaign against a popular political candidate. The investigation soon becomes a murder case involving a hippie leader whose values, like Wine's, have been compromised over the years.
Set in California, shot on location in southern California.
