London: Kendon Films, 1978. Draft script for the 1979 film, here under the working title "The Boys in Black," with the annotations in manuscript ink of copy number "44" and an illegible name on the title page.

Originally made for the BBC television anthology series "Play for Today" in 1977, it was withdrawn from broadcast and banned in England due to violence. Two years later director Alan Clarke remade it as a feature film. One of Clarke's earliest efforts, a brutal and uncompromisingly bleak look into England's borstal system (which would be abolished in 1982). A cult classic of British social realism. The television version would finally be allowed broadcast in England 14 years later in 1991.

Shot on location in Shenley Mental Hospital in Hetfordshire, England.

Dark blue untitled wrappers with a die cut window in the British style. Title page present, dated December, 1978, with credits for screenwriter Roy Minton. 102 leaves, with last page of text numbered 97. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only, with undated pink revision pages throughout. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, bound internally with two flat metal brads.
