A peplum (sword-and-sandal) swashbuckler set in 1700s France, about a highwayman who forms a band of knaves who steal from the rich and give to the poor. The second of three films starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Claudia Cardinale, following Mauro Bolognini's "La viaccia" (1961), and preceding José Giovanni's "Scoumoune" (1972).
Shot on location in Aveyron, Hérault, Seine-et-Marne, and Oise, France.
