Based on the 1956 Broadway play, written by Kyle Crichton, which was based on the 1955 biography of Philadelphia banking magnate, Anthony J. Drexel Biddle, "My Philadelphia Father," by his daughter Cordelia Drexel Biddle.
The last live action film Walt Disney oversaw before his death. Disney's lavish musical starring Ed MacMurray as the eccentric, patriotic, religious patriarch dealing with his teenage daughter, played by Lesley Ann Warren in her film debut, getting engaged and moving away.
Nominated for an Academy Award.
