In 1941, while waiting for the release of "Citizen Kane," Welles produced and directed a stage adaptation of Wright's best selling 1940 novel, "Native Son." The play starred Canada Lee, and ran from March 24 to June 28, for 114 performances, at the St. James Theatre.
