Collection of twelve touched-up photographs of Philadelphia business storefronts, circa 1920
Philadelphia: N.p., Circa 1920. Collection of twelve touched-up photographs of Philadelphia business storefronts, likely for publication as real estate advertisements, circa 1920.
A fascinating collection of twelve photographs, with detailed touch-ups for print, of Philadelphia storefronts, circa 1920, each with annotations on the versos of a cataloging number and address.
Seven of the photographs are of the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia, three West Philadelphia, one North Philadelphia, and one, the old Milton Bradley Company at 17th and Arch Streets, from Center City. The majority of locations in the photographs no longer exist, have been rebuilt, or have had the facade rebuilt. Only one building in the collection remains largely as it is seen in the photograph, a charming candy shop with "Our Own Make Candies" barely visible above the window located at 52nd Street and Walnut Street, now in disrepair with the storefront remodeled with aluminum roll-up shutters. A compelling collection documenting early twentieth century Philadelphia, four of which include vehicles from the period.
Complete collation details available on request.
Approximately 8 x 10 inches, mounted on art board. Very Good plus to Near Fine overall, four with even fading.
