We Want Our QTV!
N.p. N.p., Circa 1993. Vintage "We Want Our QTV! (Queer Television)" flyer, circa 1993.
The flyer, which reads as a political manifesto, is a call for equitable time and fair representation of gay and lesbian people and issues in the media in the early 1990s. Divided into five sections; "Political," "Social," "Educational," "How Can We Get Our QTV?," and "Write To:," the flyer was written in response to a variety of issues, including the ongoing AIDS crisis and the recent "lifting of the ban" on gays and lesbians in the military (the specious 1993 "Don't ask, don't tell" policy), which the flyer notes as being successfully halted for six months by the mobilization of Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network, as well as ongoing political efforts to censor gay and lesbian voices by the likes of Jesse Helms and Don Wildmon. The flyer closes with contact information for David Geffen of Geffen Records, Barry Diller, Chairman and CEO of QVC Home Shopping Network, and Sid Sheinberg, President and CEO of MCA / Universal.
