James Toback's directorial debut, wherein Harvey Keitel stars as a sexually dysfunctional young pianist, torn between his work as a ruthless debt collector for his loan shark father, and wanting to be a classical pianist like his mentally ill mother.

Remade in 2005 as the French film, "The Beat That My Heart Skipped," directed by Jacques Audiard, and starring Romain Duris and Niels Arestrup.

Set in and shot on location in New York.
