Cassavetes had only screened the film at two festivals prior to the date advertised here, the San Sebastian Film Festival on September 20, 1974 and the New York Film Festival on October 12, 1974.

Along with "Faces" (1968), considered to be one of Cassavetes' most important films, an intense study of marriage, women in modernity, and the working class. Among the first fifty films to be added to the National Film Registry, nominated for two Academy Awards.
