Sherard was a friend of Oscar Wilde's, his primary biographer in the early twentieth century, and wrote numerous biographies on prominent French writers. Sherard counted as Sherard's acquaintances are Pierre Louÿs, Ferdinand de Lesseps, Jules Verne, and Alphonse Daudet.

Very Good plus in gilt-decorated boards. Slight spine lean, moderate toning to the extremities, spine ends and corners lightly bumped, and foxing to the page fore-edges.
