Isaac (Allen) is divorced from Jill (Streep), who is living with another woman and is writing a book. Isaac is also dating Tracy (Hemingway), a 17-year-old, when he meets Mary (Keaton), the mistress of his best friend Yale (Murphy), with whom he falls in love.

Woody Allen's first foray into black-and-white was an instant classic, and took the talent for drama and auteur status hinted at in "Annie Hall" (1977) to completion.

Set in New York and shot on location there.
