Lawrence Sanders (novels)
Brian G. Hutton (director)
Mann Rubin (screenwriter)

New York: Filmways Pictures, 1979. Draft script for the 1980 film.

Based on a series of popular novels by Lawrence Sanders, and Frank Sinatra's last starring role. Roman Polanski was originally slated to direct, but the position was taken over by Brian G. Hutton when Polanski fled to France after being charged with statutory rape.

A big-city detective on the verge of retirement is beset with profound personal problems, including a gravely ill wife, all while investigating the case of an axe murderer. One of Sinatra's most understated performances, and one of the first mainstream movies to feature a serial killer.

Set in New York, shot on location there.
