Korda was born in Hungary and began his career in the Austrian and German film industries. He worked in Hollywood in the late 1920s before relocating to London, where he quickly became one of Britain's most prominent filmmakers. He was the founder of London Films and later was the owner of British Lion films. He produced "The Fallen Idol" (1948) and "The Third Man" (1949) at Shepperton Studios. Both films were very well received, "The Third Man" winning the Academy Award for best cinematography in 1951.
