Bruno Winter (Rudiger Vogler) is a film projection repair man on the Western side of the East German border. He meets Robert Lander (Hanns Zischler), a depressed doctor who has just broken up with his wife. Robert joins Bruno in his travels from theater to theater around East Germany where they encounter an array of distraught characters. Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
Set in East and West Germany, and shot on location there in: Saxony, the island of Bacharach, Bavaria, and Hessen.
