A high school romance, wherein Melinda (Sandra Dee), 16 years old and rumored to be an illegitimate child, is a source of contention in her small town. When the son of a traveling salesman begins attending he school, the pair are instantly drawn to one another. The relationship is another source of drama for the poor scandalized Melinda.
